Sagot :
The Philippines is located at Latitude 13 North and Longitude 122 East, just a bit above the equator, making it a tropical country. It is rich in natural resources especially water resources. Many factors influence the environment and natural resources of the Philippines. Many of those are tied to where the Philippines is located in the globe. Below are some of the effects on various aspects of our environment.
Water Resources
The location of the Philippines and it being an archipelago means that we have many natural sources of water including springs and the vast oceans surrounding us. Our coastlines are one of the longest in the world as well, totaling around 17.5 thousand kilometers. Because of its location above the equator, our country also has abundant supply of rainwater during the rainy season but a low supply during the dry seasons.
Soil
As the Philippines is situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire, volcanic eruptions had contributed to the rich soil in the country. Irrigation is typically not a problem as well because of the supply of water available.
Natural Resources
We have various natural resources available both in land and in the waters. Sadly, we are not usually able to maintain and preserve these natural resources. The mining of rocks and precious metals are the usual culprit to various environment issues we have, including flash floods due to illegal logging.
Biodiversity
The Philippines has a diverse flora and fauna because of it being a tropical country. The temperature however varies significantly at times, making significant effects on the lives of various animals, including pigs and chicken--our usual sources of meat. During the hot season, diseases typically spread easily that kill of a significant number of these animals.
It is critical that we take care of our environment especially because of the threats of climate change and sea-level rise which makes the country vulnerable to being submerged soon given our vast coastlines.
