Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a chemical substance in the form of a clear liquid with a slightly thicker texture than water. The chemical, which is composed of hydrogen and oxygen, is also known as one of the substances that has many benefits and is widely found in everyday life, such as in cosmetics, medications, houshold products, household products and even disinfectants.
In its use, WHO has set the dose of hidrogen peroxide that must be used. Hydrogen peroxide with low concentration (3–9%) is usually used as the composition of various household cleaning products, one of which is a disinfectant.
Disinfectant liquid is often used to clean some places or areas that are touched by other people, for example floors. It is proven to be an effective way in killing viruses and bacteria. When making the liquid yourself, you should only mix the main ingredients with pure water.
The recommended dose when making your own disinfectant is 0.05 percent Hydrogen Peroxide. When mixing it with water, use a ratio of 1:100.
Then how much water is needed for 1 liter of hydrogen peroxide to disinfect floors?
So, for 1 liter of H2O2 (with 3-5% concentration) we need 100 liters of water to dissolve it based on the ratio above.
In addition to its various uses, hydrogen peroxide also has the potential to harm the body, especially if not used wisely. It is feared that using hydrogen peroxide outside of what is advised can lead to a number of risks and negative effects, including:
• Breathing difficulties, nausea, vomiting, cramps in the stomach, and chest pain, if products with high levels of hydrogen peroxide are swallowed.
• Extensive burns, if used in serious burns
• Eye damage, if high levels of hydrogen peroxide accidentally come into contact with the eyes
• Respiratory tract irritation, coughing, shortness of breath, to lung damage, if excessive amounts of hydrogen is inhaled.
Inhaling peroxide can cause lung damage.
In order to prevent such things happen, make sure you use a variety of products that contain hydrogen peroxide according to the instructions for use listed on the packaging.
