Why is it hot in December and cold in June in the Southern Hemisphere?

This is due to the fact that the rotation axis of the Earth is not perpendicular to the plane in which it rotates around the Sun. Therefore during the year, the pole that is closest to the Sun changes. The hemispere which pole is facing the Sun experiences more heat influx than the other hemispere. Also the length of the day is longer. therefore, the change of seasons is opposite for both hemisperes.
