how to solve a partitive proportion

Sagot :

King Jonas wanted to divide his land to his 2 sons - Jone and Nas. Jone will get 2 whenever Nas gets 3. If King Jonas is having 1,500 hectares of land, then on what area in hectares will Jone and Nas get?

Proportion: 2 : 3
Quantity: 1,500

Solution:
2 + 3 = 5
1500 / 5 = 300 * 2 = 600 (Jone)
1500 / 5 = 300 * 3 = 900 (Nas)

Conclusion:
Jone gets 600 hectares and Nas gets 900 hectares.

Now here's the trick:
Add the numbers in the proportion (ex. 1 : 2 : 3, 1 + 2 + 3 = 6) then identify the quantity being shared (ex. 300) then divide it by 6 (ex. 300/6 = 50) then multiply it on every quantity ( 50 * 1 = 50, 50 * 2 = 100, and 50 * 3 = 150 ).
