Fossils are the preserved residues of ancient organisms in the form of sedimentary rocks. A fossil can preserve the whole organism or one part of it like bones, shells, feathers, and leaves. Fossils are formed in many ways, but usually when a dead plant or animal in a watery environment and is submerged in mud and silt fossils formed. When soft tissues of an organism decompose it leaves the bones or shells behind and sediment builds on top and hardens into rock.

  • Body fossils

It refers to the entire remains of prehistoric organisms together with soft tissue.

  • Molds and casts

Mold is an imprint left by the shell of a hard skeleton on the neighboring rock. The cast is replicas of molds produced naturally.

  • Petrification fossils  

They are formed when the organic matter is completely changed by minerals and convert to stone.  

  • Trace Fossils

They are footprints, trackways, trails, and holes in the mud that harden and become fossils.

  • Coprolites

They are fossilized feces that give hints to where animals lived and their diet.
