What do you notice about the topics or subjects of the Philippine films?

Although Philippine films cover many topics and subjects like those of other countries, I have noticed three topics and subjects that dominate the cinema.

  • The topic of family problems is always a big seller for the masses. They can relate to the struggles of maintaining a good relationship with its members.

  • Stories about love are abundant in Philippine films. The beautiful rich girl and the poor lad touches the well-loved topic of the rich and the poor who fought for their love.

  • The oppressive landowner and the poor farmer. This one is a favorite, seeing the mestizo actor who plays as the hacienda owner die in the hands of the oppressed poor is repeated in many movies.

The choice of topics when they make movies seems to echo a feeling that the Filipinos have from the time of colonialism, they admire and actually want to look just like the rich white colonizers but detest the treatment they get.
