Answer:
How can one prevent a conflict between the parents and their child?
There is really no way to completely prevent a parent-child conflict, but there ways to avoid escalating the situation.
Explanation:
Here are some ways to lessen the incidence of conflicts between the parent and the child.
- The parent has to treat the child with respect.
- Show love to the child.
- Spend time with the child.
- Provide some real parenting like tutoring, outdoor activities, and have a bit of small talk.
The child of coarse needs to respect the parents, but it is rare to hear it being mentioned the other way around. Respecting the child means providing them some space to be a child, of course, there are rules but the trick is not to make them so suffocating that it strangles the fun out of being a child. This will make the child cheerful and they will remember this forever.
Letting the child know that they are loved is probably one of the most important things a parent can do. We are not talking about just saying “I love you” once a week, I mean telling them all the time while they are still small since you can’t keep saying the same thing when they're in their teens, that would be awkward. So keep saying that while they’re toddlers and get a hug and a kiss in return.
Whenever possible, do everything with the child. A simple walk around the yard, the street, buying groceries or going anywhere where safety isn’t an issue is advisable. Talk with the child, tell them your experiences when you were young, the mistakes you’ve made, how their grandparents were and all of that. Most of all, tell them how lucky you are to have them and that you owe your happiness to them, not the other way around as some parents do by saying that the child owes them their life. First of all, the child never asked to be born, the parents needed them to feel complete, and that is the truth.
With all the boxes checked, struggling parents can look forward to a bright future in terms of parent and child relationship and resolve any potential conflicts that are guaranteed to come.
The reasons why conflicts don’t escalate:
- The love between the parent and the child is strong
- The child has fond memories with his or her parents
- The bond is so strong that letting go isn’t an option at all
