The KAKAWATE TREE (a.k.a Madre de Kakaw) ---> grows from 10 to 12 meters in height. The leaves are compounded and up to 25 cm long. The flowers are numberous like pink or pale violet, and clustered along the stems of fallen leaves. The pods are flats and up to 14 cm long.
This kind of tree is a native of Mexico and it was introduced to the Philippines during the early Spanish period.
It is said to be that few Kakawate trees are planted in Alabang Hills, and notably one along Cagayan de Oro.
