What are the components of the DNA and RNA molecule?

Sagot :

Components of the DNA and RNA Molecule

Both DNA and RNA are composed of Nucleotides. RNA and DNA molecule are both similar with the following components: Phosphate group, sugar group and nitrogenous bases. These serve as the building blocks of DNA and RNA Molecule. Since they are made from Nucleotides, both has a five carbon sugar backbone, phosphate group and nitrogenous base.

DNA Components:

  • nitrogenous bases which are adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C), guanine (G)
  • carbon sugar molecules
  • phosphate molecules

RNA Components:

  • nitrogenous bases which are  adenine (A), uracil (U), cytosine (C), or guanine (G)
  • carbon sugar molecules
  • phosphate molecules

If observed, DNA and RNA has only same components except for their nitrogenous bases. DNA has Thymine while RNA has uracil.
