What criteria did you use to choose which group an element belongs to?
The element properties and the formed compounds.
- Chemical compounds can be categorized according to a variety of different criteria. The basic elements present are a standard method. For example, oxides contain one or more atoms of oxygen, hydrides contain one or more atoms of hydrogen and halides contain one or more atoms of halogens. Bio compounds are characterized as those with a carbon backbone and all other compounds have been identified as inorganic. Organometallic compounds, as the name implies, are organic compounds bound to metal atoms.
- Many new elements were detected, although others were synthesized artificially. Each fits correctly into a group of elements with similar properties. The periodic table is an arrangement of the elements according to their atomic numbers such that the elements with identical properties appear in the same vertical column or group.
