Sagot :
in doing the rounding of numbers you should rely to the number before given place
in your example 678 the nearest hundred here is 6 , as I've said a while a ago you have to rely to number before it and that is 7
*( if the number before the given place value is 5 and above you will round it off but if it us 4 and below, the the given number in the place will not change but the numbers after it will become 0)*
so in 678 it will be 700
but in 648 it will be 600
see the difference?

1) Look for the digit in the hundreds place, which is 6.
2) Check the immediate digit to its right, which is the tens.
If the immediate digit to the right of the place value to be rounded off is from 0 to 4, then the hundreds place does not change.
If the immediate digit to the right of the place value to be rounded off is from 5
to 9, then add 1 to the hundreds place.
3) In 678, the tens digits is 7, therefore, add 1 to the hundreds place value.
4) 678 rounded off to the nearest hundreds is 700.
