The poem was said to be very impactful to the readers and for the future times to come as it speaks volumes and gives bits and pieces of harsh reality for some of us living in this self-proclaimed paradise we call the world. Although people may find power and faith and their strength build up because faith was due kind to them, then what of other people that share the same air we breathe.
How will the Future reckon with this Man? posed by the persona?
In the poem, the man with the hoe would’ve lived a much promising life than what he had. If that man enslaved with labor and continuous hardships while standing in the dark without given importance. As a child of the future I am the best start who uplifts these kinds of people, by starting in small things like:
- Appreciating their dedication in work
- Respecting their hard work
- Doing my own best in life to give them a better future-“future” to live in
- Be the one who can put the spotlight on them
The poem also contained impactful questions that are very relatable even now, such as:
- Is this the thing the Lord God made and gave to have dominion over sea and land?
- Is this that dream He dreamed who shaped the suns and marked their ways upon ancient deep?
- What to him are Plato and the swing of Pleiades?
- Is this the handiwork you give to God, this monstrous thing distorted and soul-quenched?
