Find 2 numbers whose sum is 40 and whose product is 300

SHOW YOUR SOLUTIOPN. OUR TOPIC IS ABOUT QUADRATIC EQUATIONS :)

Sagot :

10 and 30
10x30=300
10+30= 40
x + y = 40
In terms of x:
     x + y = 40
    y = 40 - x

Let first number = x
       second number = 40-x
       product of the two numbers = 300

Equation
     (x) (40-x) = 300
    40x - x² = 300

Equate to zero:
   -x² + 40x - 300 = 0

Solve by factoring:
  -(x-10) (x-30) = 0

-x + 10 = 0            x - 30 = 0
- x = -10                x = 30
  x = 10

The two numbers are:
If x = 10
Then the two numbers are:
    first number x = 10
    second number  (40-10) = 30

If x = 30
Then the two numbers are:
    first number = 30
   second number (x-30) = 10

Even if interchanged, the two numbers are 10 and 30

To check:
  10 + 30 = 40
  (10) (30) = 300
