What is the difference between the man with the hoe and sonnet 29

  • Both the poem "The Man with the Hoe" by Edwin Markham and the Sonnet 29 by  Shakespeare speak of the agony of mankind when he is in a state of suffering and contention.  However, one difference is that Markham 's poem talks more fluently about the state of being subjected to work,  perhaps even simply about the state of slavery, whereas Shakespeare 's poem talks only of having an impoverished destiny. It finishes on  a happy note, too.

  • The man with the hoe  has to do with drudgery, equality.  How poorly the people are  handled by government, or society.  In the Sonnet 29, the person's jealousy, guilt, and insecurity towards the people around him was conveyed.
