Sagot :
Here is the level of organization in the activity presented in grade 7 science book.
Cells → tissues → organ → organ system → organism
Similar cells working together with similar function is called tissues. Group of tissues function together in coordination is called organ. Different organs working together with similar function is called organ system. Different organ system composes the organism. If tissues or any of this level of organization are diseased, cells, organs, organ system and the organism are all affected. If the cells are injured or diseased, tissues will be affected and will not carry out its function accordingly. Since tissues are affected, the organ which is composed of tissues are also affected and it will not carry out its function properly then the organ system to where the diseased or injured organ belongs will also be affected. The organism will be affected and get sick and weak. If not treated, the organ system will shutdown and the other organ system will be affected and the organism will be die. Every part of our body somehow are connected to each other for the organism to live.
Cells are the basic and smallest functional unit of living organism. The group of similar cells working together to perform similar function will form a tissue. Tissue are composed of cells which function similarly like muscle tissue, epithelial tissue and etc. A group of tissue working together will formed an organ. Organ is composed of different tissue that are working in coordination with each other. Example, heart organ is composed of different tissues, muscle tissues, nerve tissues, fat and epithelial tissues but are working in coordination with each other.
Here are the four basic function of the cell:
- Facilitate Growth
- Transport of nutrients
- Energy production
- Reproduction
Facilitate growth
Cells able to multiple by mitosis which allow the organism to grow. Cell also creates protein as building blocks of the body by the process known as gene expression. You might noticed some people are taller and some are short. Genes plays a part in our body's structure which is located in the nucleus of the cell. We grow taller or short base on genetic make up of our cell.
Transport of Nutrients:
Cells in different parts of the body needs nutrients to function properly. Some cells will also help in delivering nutrients from the blood and from the food the we eat. The nutrients cannot easily transfer from the blood to the cells. It will need to undergo different transport to facilitate transfer of nutrients. We have active transport, passive transport, phagocytosis and pinocytosis.
Energy production
Cells produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate) in the mitochondria with the use of oxygen making oxygen the most important nutrients in ATP production. ATP will serves as the fuel for the cells to carry out its function.
Reproduction
Sperm cells and egg cells which are both haploid cells plays a part in reproduction. Sperm cell will fertilized the egg cells to form an offspring.
Four types of tissues
- Nerve tissues
- Epithelial tissues
- Muscular tissues
- Connective tissues
Nerve Tissues
It receives and also conduct impulses in the nervous system.
Epithelial tissues
It serves as lining which covers most of the internal cavities. Skin is made up of epithelial tissues which protects and covers our body from outside environment. It protects our body from foreign substances and microorganism.
Muscular tissues
Skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, and cardiac muscles are all muscular tissues. Muscles are use to contract to perform an action. We are able to move because of the contraction of our skeletal muscles.
Connective tissues
Bones, cartilage, fat tissues and etc are all example of connective tissues. Majority of the parts of our body are made up of connective tissues.
Our body is composed of different organs. Organs working together with similar function is known as organ system.
Types of Organ system:
- Circulatory system
- Digestive system
- Endocrine system
- Muscular system
- Integumentary system
- Immune system
- Nervous system
- Urinary system
- Skeletal system
- Hematopoietic system
- Respiratory system
- Reproductive system
