Living things have the ability to reproduced, the ability to breathe, the ability to move, they have cells and they also die. Living things can reproduce sexually and asexually and they are called the biotic factor in the ecosystem. Non-living things on the other hand, it doesn't have the ability to reproduce, or move, or breathe. They are somehow useful for the living organism in some other ways like building homes, clothes, and are even important for the living things to survive like air.

Non-living things are useful for living things to survive. Humans needs air, house, clothe to survive. Most of non-living things act as Abiotic factor in the ecosystem.
Living things interacts with non-living things to survive. Living things needs nutrients which is belong to the non-living things. Some living things lives in land, and some lives in water. Without the abiotic factor, living things will not survive in the environment.
Living things also interact with other living things. In fact, most living things will eat other living things to survive. Plants in general serves as the primary producers in the food chain since it has the ability to produced its own foods categorize as Autorophs. The animals that eats plants are called primary consumer and they are also known as herbivore. Secondary consumers and tertiary consumers are usually carnivore and omnivore. Carnivore eat other animal while omnivore eat both plants and animals. Humans are very good example of the omnivore. Humans can also be a primary consumer since humans eat plants. Decomposers are usually bacteria or other microorganism.
In energy pyramid, organism are divided into trophic level. The first trophic level are the producer and usually are the plants, the second trophic level are organism who eats plants and the third trophic level will eat the second trophic level and so on and so fort. The first trophic level can only give 10% of its energy to the second trophic level. The second trophic level also can only give 10% of its energy also to the third trophic level. The remaining 90% if their energy are use for growth and other metabolic purposes.
Example:
Plants have 1,000,000 Joules of energy
Plants → cow → Lion
1,000,000 J 100,000 J 10,000 J
Plants can only give 10% of 1,000,000 J which 100,000 J to the cow. And cow can only give 10,000 J out of 100,000 J of energy to Lion. The 90% of energy use for metabolic purposes like growth. When they die, the energy will be recycle with the help of the decomposers.
