Sagot :
What is Chemical Change?
- A chemical change transforms matter into one or more new kinds of new matter after a chemical reaction.
- It is a change where the type of matter changes.
- A chemical change is different from a physical change, they are very opposite. In a chemical change, the original matter and the new matter have a different properties, it is not the same properties.
Reminder: Chemical changes produces new substances. These substances have different properties than the original ones. Oftentimes you can see, hear or even smell the formation of new substances once a chemical change occurs. It is a permanent change, we cannot reverse it back.
These are the examples of Chemical change;
- burning of paper or wood
- corrosion of metal
- mixed vinegar and baking powder
- roasting marshmallow
What is Physical Change?
- A physical change is a change in the way the matter looks without changing it into a new kind of matter. Or the size and the shape of the matter or also known as "appearance" has only changed but the type of matter stays the same. So it means there are changes, but it is only the appearance of the matter, but the type of matter is still the same.
Remember: Physical Changes cannot change the type of matter. There is no new kind of matter or substance that has been formed. Only the appearance has been changed bit the type of matter is stills the same. And usually, physical change can be "reversible." It means it can be restored or reversed in its original form or previous state.
These are the examples of Physical change;
- melting of ice
- shattered glass
- cutting of wood
- crumpled paper
