produced that keeps mouth moist and makes it easier to swallow food. It is also
a slightly alkaline secretion of water, mucin, protein, protein, salts, and
often a starch-splitting enzyme that is secreted by the salivary glands,
lubricates ingested food, and often begins the breakdown of starches.
