Please refer to the explanation part below for the answer to this question.

Explanation:

Acid Rain

Acid rain, also known as acid deposition, is a term that refers to the precipitation that contains acidic components like sulfuric acid or nitric acid that fall to the ground that came from the atmosphere in wet or dry appearance. These precipitations are rain, fog, snow, hail or even dust.

Causes of Acid Rain

Acid rain can be caused by either man-made processes or natural processes.

Natural processes refer to interactions among plants, animals, and other living organisms and natural resources from the environment.

Examples of natural processes that causes acid rain are the following:

  • Volcanic eruption - sulfur dioxide (SO₂) is being emitted to the atmosphere during volcanic eruption. Sulfur dioxide released in the air will mix and react with water (if it rain). This rain will be acidic.
  • Decomposition of Vegetation - decaying vegetation or decomposition of plant and animals also releases sulfur dioxide that causes acid rain.

Made-made processes are the activities made by humans that causes pollution.

Examples of man-made processes that causes acid rain are the following:

  • The Use of Car - fossil fuels are burned from using a car and it releases sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. When these pollutants are released in the atmosphere, acid rain will also be produced
  • Flue Gases or Stack Gases from Chemical Plants - due to the chemical processing, unwanted chemical reactions and chemical byproducts are produced. These byproducts are pollutants to the atmosphere. Acidic chemical compounds emitted by the pants will cause acid rain.
