When an egg is fertilized by a sperm that has a Y chromosome, the result would be boy.
Male and Female both carry a sex chromosome. For women, they usually have two X's, while men have one X and one Y chromosome. When an egg cell and sperm cell is made, only one of the sex chromosome from the parent remains. This means that women could only make an egg cell with X chromosome, while for men, could either make an X or a Y from a sperm cell.
It is during fertilization that you could determine the gender of the baby. These sperm cells raise their way towards the egg cell. If a sperm cell that carries the Y chromosome beats all the other sperm, the result would be XY. Thus, it would result to a baby boy.
However, if it is the sperm cell that carries the X chromosome, the result would be XX. Thus, it would result to a baby girl.
