Answer:

What does Daedalus invent to help him and Icarus escape from the Labyrinth?

When Daedalus and Icarus were held in the labyrinth, he invented the first contraption that made human flight possible. He made two pairs of wings to allow him and his son to escape from the island of Crete and return to Athens.

They did this by gathering available materials such as:

  • Pieces of wood
  • candle wax
  • bird feathers.

Explanation:

After watching the seabirds flying around the tower, Daedalus figured a way out of their situation. He asked his son Icarus to help him gather feathers left by the birds. Icarus also picked up pieces of wood that were scattered around the place. They collected available wax from candle drippings around the area.

The materials were used as:

  • The pieces of wood became the frame
  • the feathers were placed to create lift
  • the candle wax became the glue that held the feather to the frame.

When the wings were finally finished, the two executed their plan but not before Daedalus warned Icarus about 2 things.

The warnings given were:

  1. Not to fly too close to the water
  2. Not to fly too close to the sun
