Solid - typically the molecules are more compact and cannot move freely than the other states of matter. Also more often than not, they have definite shape and volume.
Gases' molecular structure have wider space and strong kinetic energy which make gases shapeless. This state of matter doesn't have definite volume and takes the shape of its container.
