Material and Condition
The materials to be used are the following:
- Coin
- Cardboard
- Glass
That coin will be placed on top of the cardboard. The cardboard will be placed on top of a glass or something.
Slowly pulling the cardboard
When the cardboard is slowly pulled, the coin on top of it will also move with it. The frictional force acting between the coin and the cardboard made the coin to stay on top of the cardboard used.
Flicking the cardboard
When the cardboard was flicked, the cardboard moved upward and outward, but the coin cannot be with it. Since the cardboard removed from underneath, therefore the coin will be dropped into the 'glass'. The coin will not join together with the flicked cardboard because the coin is at rest.
Hitting the coin at the bottom
When the coin hit from the bottom, the coin will move upward and may move depend on the force given even there are still other coins that don't move.
This coin and cardboard activity is a simple example but we can see it in our surroundings with the same condition.
