y=log base 2 x
please help me plot this

Sagot :

So the given is [tex]y=log_{2} x[/tex]
For me to be a lot easier, just substitute it by its power, since the base is 2, we can substitute values like 1, 2, 4, 8, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 such as that. remember that x is the set of all real numbers.

If we let x become 1:
[tex]y=log_{2} 1[/tex]
y=0
Any number raise to 0 is one. So the first coordinates is (1,0)

If we let x become 2
[tex]y=log_{2} 2[/tex]
y=1
The coordinates will be (2,1)

If we let x become 8
[tex]y=log_{2} 8[/tex]
y=3
The coordinates will be (8,3)

If we let x be 1/2
[tex]y=log_{2} \frac{1}{2}[/tex]
y=-1
Therefore the coordinates is (1/2,-1)

Just do like that, if you are done, just graph a line, not a straight but a curve line. Hope this helps =)

The graph should be between the 1st and the 4th quadrant, in the 4th quad, the line will not touch to 0.
