How to get greatest common factor

Sagot :

for example your fraction is 12/48
so get first the factor of your numerator and denominator
12=(12,1),(3,4),(6,2)
48=(2,24),(4,12),(1,48),...
find the highest number that both of the number is present.
12 is the highest number so we can divide 12 to the numerator and to the denominator.
so the answer will be 1/4.

if you can't find any common factor in your fraction you conclude that  your fraction will be the final answer.
To find greatest common factor:

Find their prime factors

for example 18 and 54

18 is 2*3*3
54 is 2*3*3*3

then just get the common prime which is 2*3*3 so the GCF is 18
